If you’re traveling to visit family for Thanksgiving or other holidays, it’s easy to forget some of the basic necessities you need to keep your mouth healthy. It’s even easier to get lazy with your oral health routine when staying at a relative’s house and not being familiar with their bathroom.
So let’s look at what our team here at Crossroads Dental in Chesapeake, Virginia, recommends you do to keep your oral health in tip top shape while traveling for the holidays.
Carry a toothbrush
A travel toothbrush packed into your carry-on or other suitcase is a great way to make sure you always have something with which you can clean your teeth. In airport bathrooms or motels, you’ll always have a brush to keep your teeth clean.
If you forget to brush or floss, another great thing to have in your travel bag is mouthwash. While it’s not a permanent solution for brushing teeth, it’s a great way to remove bacteria from your mouth as quickly as possible. It won’t remove plaque but it’ll help keep most of the bad bacteria in your mouth at bay.
Flossing is one of the most important things you can do for your oral health, and while you’re traveling you definitely need to floss, especially if you forgot to brush. You can floss on the bus, in an airplane, or a car (if you’re not driving). Brushing your teeth in those areas is a bit more difficult.
At the end of the day, it’s best to plan ahead for the holidays to make sure your oral health won’t suffer while you travel. If you have any questions, call us today at 757-541-2168.
